Geraldine June Hulbert
December 23, 1928 – June 16, 2023
Oskaloosa, Iowa | Age 94

Geraldine June (Lester) Hulbert, 94, of Oskaloosa, Iowa, entered into her eternal reward on Friday, June 16, 2023. She was born on a frosty morn, December 23, 1928, to Clifford and Mary (Allgood) Lester in rural Barnes City, Iowa. Geraldine’s three year old sister, Jeanne, thought the new baby was her very own Christmas Gift, because she had “ordered” a baby doll out of the Sear’s and Roebuck Christmas Catalog that year. Geraldine joined siblings, Ruth, Dwight, Herschel, and Jeanne Lester.

Geraldine attended rural Sandridge School, Riggs School and Barnes City School, and graduated from Rose Hill High School with the class of 1946.

Soon after graduating high school, she met the love of her life, Fred Hulbert, who had just returned from the battlefields of WWII. The couple fell in love and eloped on December 22, 1946. They had been married for 64 years and 8 months, when Fred passed away in 2011.

Geraldine had been a dental assistant for Dr. A.R. Bowie, then she enjoyed being a housewife and stay at home mom while her children were young. Later jobs included, bookkeeping for Iowa Automotive and office manager of the Mahaska County Assessor’s office. She also worked at the polls on election day.

Geraldine gave her heart to the Lord while listening to a Christian radio program on KBOE. She was a dedicated and faithful follower of Jesus Christ. Geraldine nurtured her children in a loving and Godly home.

Geraldine was an active member of the First Assembly of God Church in Oskaloosa. She taught Sunday School and helped with Prims Girls in the Missionettes for many years. When Fred gave his heart to the Lord, Geraldine attended the Calvary Bible Church regularly with him. After Fred’s passing, Geraldine divided her church attendance between the Calvary Bible Church and the Assembly of God Church. She loved both congregations so much.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Bonnie Jean Wagley of Boerne, Texas, Janice Kay (& Howard) Brink of Hedrick, Michael Duane (& Peggy) Hulbert of Johnston, Iowa, and Kathy Sue (& Jerry) Richardson of Oskaloosa, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Tammy (& Brandon) McDaniel of Bergheim, Texas, Andy (& Tammy) Brink of Chariton, Iowa, Amy Brink of Lewisburg, Kentucky, Jesse Rogers of Marengo, Iowa, Justin Richardson of Largo, Florida, Dr. Ashlee Hulbert of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Andrew Richardson of Oskaloosa; great grandchildren: Ryan Bailey and Jessica Bailey; step great grandchildren: Kyle Holtzinger, Chris Holtzinger, Ally Chichizola, Cameron Skyles, and Riley Richardson. Geraldine also has four step great-great grandchildren: Mel, Maddie, Mark, and Ashton Chichizola; and her sister-in-law, Ethel Hulbert.

Those who preceded Geraldine into eternity include, her beloved husband, Fred; her parents, Cliff and Mary Lester; her parents-in-law, Alfred and Verne Hulbert; two sisters, Ruth Lester and Jeanne (& Lester) Gosselink; brothers, Dwight Lester and Herschel Lester; sisters-in-law: Norma Lester, Virginia Lester, Goldie Hulbert Haggard, and Ione Hulbert; brothers-in-law: Cecil Hulbert, Russell Gosselink, and Floyd Hulbert; and a son-in-law, Wayne Wagley.

Graveside funeral service and burial will be held Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at 2 p.m. in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa with Reverend Michael Dotson officiating.
A procession will form at the Bates Funeral Chapel at 1:45 Tuesday afternoon for those attending the graveside service. Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Assembly of God Church in Oskaloosa or Gideons International.
