Fundraiser Still Successful in Spite of Heat

Lunch Photo: Hawkeye Real Estate staff offered community members lunch for a free-will contributions to raise funds for United Way. Extreme heat prevented the original plan of “grilling out” but donations for cold drinks, sides, sandwiches and desserts still helped over $300 to be raised and then donated to United Way. The United Way fundraiser was supposed to be an outdoor grilling tailgate party. But Hawkeye Real Estate changed plans when their “House Divided” fundraising event ended up being held on what turned out to be on the hottest day of the year. Record-breaking temperatures caused Chris Roach, Hawkeye Broker, to offer cold sandwiches and sides for the event instead of the traditional tailgating fare of burgers and hotdogs.
The tailgating lunch, held September 9, was part of Hawkeye’s commitment to support United Way. All items for the lunch were donated by Hawkeye Real Estate, agents, and staff. Local business members as well as community members who happened to be passing by between noon and 1 p.m., were invited to stop and eat lunch with the Hawkeye Real Estate and Mahaska Title employees and make a donation to United Way. $300 in donations were made, which Hawkeye Real Estate matched, so a $600 donation was made to the United Way’s 2013 fundraising campaign.
Hawkeye Real Estate also participated in United Way’s Day of Caring by volunteering to paint the bandstand and work in the town square. This time, the weather cooperated when Hawkeye and hundreds of other community members volunteered during this annual event.
“We care about Oskaloosa and appreciate United Way’s efforts to improve the community through Day of Caring,” said Roach. “We have participated in the Day of Caring event every year since it started, and we’re proud to be part of a volunteer effort that involved over 130 volunteers last Thursday.”
