Fremont Frontier Days
Fremont’s Frontier Days was a big success, and helped Fremont put summer behind them. There was a dunk tank, and a wonderful parade that went on for nearly an hour that had over 50 entries. A dutch over cooking contest that drew participants and 13 different groups from as far away as Illinois.
Phyllis Gecho a coordinator of the event that has been going on now for about 7 years. Some highlights of the event were the buck-skinners (Timberwolves) that set up camp at the horse arena. She emphasized the parade how wonderful it was, and that the coordination by those helping with that did an excellent job. The event helps bring people into Fremont as well as help to provide for other events during the year that the committee is part of Halloween and Easter events for the kids. Phyllis wanted to say special thanks to Reid Clark for going way above the call of duty, and also to the local business that helped by supporting the event with ad purchases.
Several people interviewed really seemed to enjoy themselves. A gentleman interviewed had been up cooking for the event since 6 a.m. Some folks expressed that past years have seen larger crowds and the event was missing some kids events like the inflatables. With smaller budgets, some cutbacks are to be expected as towns of all sizes struggle to make it.
Linda Holston also helped with the event. She helped in the karaoke, baby contest, and unfortunately the kiddie parade had been rained out. They were able to get in the kids tractor pull. Linda thought the event was a success, also mentioning the parade. The past leadership of the event have extended wishes that younger people will get involved in planning and to be part of the committee of the event. They would also like to thank all the corporate sponsors that gave so much to them from Oskaloosa and Ottumwa, because without them, putting on the event would have been much harder.
