Fourth Annual Lacey Longball Classic
Baseball, baseball, and more baseball! This is how you could describe the Lacey Recreation Complex this weekend when 30 teams showed up to compete in the 4th Annual Lacey Longball Classic. Over 330 players participated in age divisions 14U, 10U, 9U, and 8U, competing on both Saturday and Sunday. Pool play was held on Saturday, and Sunday began bracket play for the teams. The weekend was jam-packed with games for each team and the players continually gave 100% effort. USSSA Oskaloosa Hurricane and Lighting teams (age 12-13) hosted the tournament, and those players gave back by helping to rake the fields after each game. All teams were geared to compete as games were held at the 5-plex and across the way at the Babe Ruth fields . “We enjoy, coming here and playing,” expressed Sigourney manager. “Beautiful day, beautiful complex.” he stated. That sentiment was also noted from spectators as they were entering the complex on Saturday, however, rain finally forced cancellation as all ages were in the semifinals on Sunday. Champions were declared based on their seeding from pool play on Saturday. Champions were: 8U – Carlisle Wildcats; 9U – Marion Indians; 10U – Westside Aces; 14U – Indianola Braves. The Longball Classic is a state qualifier for USSSA baseball in Iowa.
