Floyd Strom

Floyd Strom, 81 of New Sharon passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at the Mayflower Care Center in Grinnell. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Friday, August 13, 2010 at the Harden Funeral Home in New Sharon. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 Thursday, August 12, 2010 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Alzheimer’s Association or the New Sharon Fire and Rescue. Interment will be held in the Friends Cemetery in New Sharon.
Floyd Arthur Strom, son of Harold and Elida (Loden) Strom was born on July 10, 1929 in New Sharon, Iowa. He graduated from New Sharon High School with the class of 1946. Floyd worked with his father in the plumbing and heating business until 1948, when he enlisted in the United States Navy. He spent time in Kodiak and Adak Alaska until March of 1950, when he was assigned as a welder on a submarine repair ship. Floyd was honorably discharged in February of 1952. On November 11, 1953, Floyd was united in marriage to Joyce Kachelhoffer in Joliet, Illinois. To this union two children were born, Mike and Teresa. Floyd began working for Caterpillar on March 24, 1952. He became an inspector in 1956 and accepted a time study job in March of 1959 at Caterpillar. In 1975, Floyd was promoted to maintenance supervisor retiring in 1985. They moved to New Sharon in 1987. Floyd enjoyed fishing, golfing and playing cards. He was member of the New Sharon Fire Department until 2000, Prairie Knolls Country Club and the New Sharon Historical Society.
His memory is honored by, his wife of 57 years, Joyce Strom of New Sharon; his son, Mike (Sandy) Strom of Joliet, IL; his sister, Alice Hudson of New Sharon; three grandchildren, Eric (Nadia) Strom of Morris, IL, Joshua Strom of Keneohe Bay, Hawaii and Jacob Strom of Joliet, IL and two great grandchildren, Eric Strom Jr. and Isabella Strom.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Elida Strom; his daughter, Teresa Strom Keto and his brother, Harry Strom.
