Five Tracksters Earn All-MCC Recognition
Oskaloosa–Five members of the William Penn track and field programs were honored for their high marks at the league championships as they collected all-Midwest Collegiate Conference honors yesterday.
To be eligible for the laurels, athletes must have finished in the top three in an individual event, in the top two in a relay event, or be a top performer in the decathlon/heptathlon/racewalk.
Gabriel Green (Jr., Anniston, Ala., Anniston HS) topped the list for the navy and gold. The MCC’s Track Athlete of the Year was a three-time honoree by winning the 100 (10.58 seconds), 200 (21.80), and 400-meter dash (48.43) events. Green eclipsed the NAIA’s ‘A’ standard in the 100 and will be seeking to make it a clean sweep by qualifying in the 200 Friday (he has already met the ‘B’ in the 400).
Nick Reynolds (Sr., Riverton, Utah, Iowa Western CC) closed out his collegiate career with an award by winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 9:51.69, while Jalen Wilson (Fr., Desoto, Texas, Duncanville HS) won the long jump with an ‘A’ mark of 23-11.5.
Audre Harris (So., Junction City, Kan., Allen CC) represented the Lady Statesmen on the all-conference list by taking second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.19 seconds.
Sam Taylor (Fr., Eddyville, Eddyville-Blakesburg HS) performed exceptionally well in his first career decathlon to receive an honorable mention. He scored 5,280 points to place fourth.
