Fenton Harold Hanselman
July 05, 1959 – July 26, 2021
New Sharon, Iowa | Age 62
Fenton Hanselman, 62 of New Sharon passed away Monday, July 26, 2021 at his home in New Sharon. Fenton Harold Hanselman, son of Jerrold and Norma (Carpenter) Hanselman, was born July 5, 1959 in Oskaloosa Iowa.
Fenton grew up in New Sharon, Iowa with his two older brothers Mark and Dave, and younger sister Lea. He attended North Mahaska elementary and high school where he participated in football and wrestling.
Following his schooling, Fenton married Cyndy Wiley. During their marriage they had three daughters: Miranda, Anna, and Alexis.
Fenton worked many different jobs including a meat packing plant in Tama, built grain bins for Randy DeWitt, a variety of construction trades including helping to build the YMCA in Newton, Clow Valve, the City of New Sharon, and Plate Electronics where he met and made life long friends. He was also a volunteer firefighter for the City of New Sharon for many years.
In addition to a very hard work ethic, he volunteered on many of his daughter’s Little League teams. He could often be seen in the back yard helping on pitching stances and batting swings. Fenton loved to go fishing, even if he only caught the trees or fed the fish. It was a fun, relaxing experience he shared with his daughters. He could always be seen around town with one of his girls or all of them in the truck with him, checking on the pump house, going to his office, or doing donuts every place he could think of in the winter or taking them on the “fun” hills.
Fenton was a lover of many things including jar collecting, rock/fossil/arrowhead collecting, mushroom hunting, taking photos of sunsets, anything outdoor related and above all music (specifically Grateful Dead and Willy Nelson)! He loved anything and everything out of the ordinary and had many interests including the supernatural, life beyond earth, and different theories about people and religion. He truly will be remembered as a one-of-a-kind person who never followed the beaten path, but rather made his own. He taught everyone around him to be themselves and love one another for our differences.
Fenton is survived by his 3 daughters, 7 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. Miranda (& Josh) Johnson and their daughters: Agustis and Paisley of Kirkville, Iowa; Anna (& Pete) Panada and their daughters: Cheyenne, Cherise, and Joey of Newton, Iowa; Alexis (& Jake) Beck and their children: Wiley and Brooke of Preston, Iowa. In addition to being a wonderful father and grandfather, he was also a great grandfather to Cheyenne’s two children, Weslynn and Sylas. Fenton is also survived by 2 brothers: Mark (& Pat) Hanselman of New Sharon, Iowa and Dave (& Carol) Hanselman of University Park, Iowa; a Sister, Lea (& Terry) DeCook of New Sharon, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, and their families.
Fenton was preceded in death by his parents, Jerrold and Norma (Carpenter) Hanselman.
