Fay Ties Three-Point Record as Statesmen Win 130-68
Oskaloosa–To say Kevin Fay (Jr., Hennepin, Ill., Education) was ‘feeling it’ Wednesday night is an understatement as he tied a program record in a 130-68 William Penn win over Nebraska Christian.
Fay hit ten three-pointers (10-of-20) to tie the single-game mark by teammate Taylor Stoutner (Sr., Keota, Iowa, Physical Education) from last year. His effort highlighted a 19 three-point effort (19-of-39) as the Statesmen (4-0) also broke a team record. The old mark was 18, set against AIB last season.
The hosts, who outshot the Parsons 60.0%-44.1%, exchanged buckets to start the game, but never trailed. William Penn held a 71-38 halftime edge with Fay heading the way with 24 points (6-of-9 3-PT).
Fay finished 14-of-25 from the floor for a game-high 38 points, but needed a shot late to match Stoutner. His teammates unselfishly sent him the ball over and over in hopes he would accomplish the feat, which he finally did with 1:30 left. It was only fitting that Stoutner earned the assist on the bucket.
Six other William Penn players also reached double digits, including 15 by Blake Walker (Jr., Rose Garden, Ga., Physical Education).
Brandon Beasley (Sr., Indianapolis, Ind., Physical Education) made it 3-for-3 this year in posting double-doubles with 13 points with 11 assists. He also stole five passes.
Keith Steffeck (Sr., Marion, Iowa, Physical Education) and James Devlin (Sr., Tampa, Fla., Sociology) each contributed 12 points, while Arman Rasul (Sr., Chicago, Ill., Sociology) and Lamonte Jenkins (Fr., Lake Charles, La., Business Management) met the mark as well with ten points apiece. Steffeck managed two blocks.
Stoutner and Davis Spielbauer (Sr., Wapello, Iowa Physical Education) both added six points.
Ross Howe (Jr., State Center, Iowa, Undecided) only poured in four points, but pulled down a team-best nine rebounds. The Statesmen more than doubled up Nebraska Christian on the boards, 52-23. The navy and gold forced 23 turnovers, but only committed 13 themselves.
