The Southern Iowa Fair is proud to announce Evans United Shows coming to the fair July 13 – 18.
Evans United Shows was Founded in 1947 and this will be their 68th year in business. The carnival was founded by Tom Evans (owner) parents & grandparents.
Evans United Shows played at the Southern Iowa Fair from 1967-1973, they left a few years and came back in 1977.
Tom and Nancy Evans (owners) have a special memory of the fair in Oskaloosa as this was the very first time Nancy (who was taking college summer school classes) came to visit Tom at this fair in 1971—it was the very first time she ever saw the carnival. They got married the next year.
Nancy Evans, was a 2nd grade teacher so daughters Emily and Erin would spend their summers at carnivals in Iowa and go home when school started. Emily is now a teacher in North Kansas City and Erin & her husband Jason are out with the carnival full time managing things along with her parent’s.
Evans United Shows is based out of Plattsburg, Missouri. They begin their season mid February in Texas and spend the spring in Texas, Kansas, Missouri before heading to Iowa in June.
They spend the summer months in Iowa and then begin working their way south back to Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas
“We are very excited for the fair to come, to have such a great carnival”, stated office manager Carrie VanderBeek. “Finding carnivals is the number one obstacle for fairgrounds these days as most carnivals book out years in advance. I really hope that the community will support this carnival so they will want to return again to the Southern Iowa Fair.”
The carnival will be opening Tuesday, July 14th at 4:00. They will be offering wristbands that let you ride unlimited rides for 4 hours for $25 all week. Tuesday & Thursday from 6:00-10:00pm they will be offering them for $20.00 and Saturday from 1-5 for $20 as well.
