Elvera Spoelstra, 88, of Oskaloosa passed away Thursday morning, July 10, 2014, at the Mahaska Health Partnership in Oskaloosa. Elvera Mae Spoelstra was born, September 2, 1925, in Galesburg, Iowa to Cornelius and Mary (Van Rheenen) Willemsen.
Elvera attended school in the Pella area at Pleasant View School. She married Cornelius J. Spoelstra, February 26, 1948, and together they farmed by Pella and New Sharon from 1948 to 1991. In 1991, they moved to Oskaloosa. Elvera made her profession of faith at a young age and is a member of the Bethel Christian Reformed Church.
Elvera loved caring for her family and enjoyed her flowers, sewing, and baking.
She is survived by two daughters: Marilyn (Lauren) Vander Molen of Harvey and Carol De Ronde of Oskaloosa; a son, Robert (Donna) Spoelstra of New Sharon; eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren: Michelle (Eric) Fopma and their children: Jacob, Noah, Evan and Claire; Daryl (Kristen) Vander Molen and their children: Gabriel and Spencer; Renae (Dustin) Sloan; Kayla (fiancé, Sam Zylstra) Vander Molen; Brian (Courtney) De Ronde and their children: M’lynn, Brady and Callen; Brent (Georgina) De Ronde and their children: Dean, Pippa and Lake; Heather (Matthew) Collins and their daughter, Molly; Kyle (fiancée, Meredith Fopma) De Ronde; Logan (fiancée, Krysta Van Maanen) Spoelstra; Hayley Spoelstra and Cole Spoelstra.
Besides her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister, Loreene (16 days old); a son-in-law, Stephen DeRonde; a brother and sister-in-law, Warner and Johanna Willemsen; a brother-in-law, Arie Spoelstra and a sister-in-law, Freda Spoelstra.
Funeral services for Elvera will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 14, 2014, at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Douglas Van Der Pol officiating.
A family prayer service will precede the funeral at 10:15 a.m. in the fellowship hall of the church.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at noon, Sunday, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will greet visitors from 2-4 p.m.
Please access the funeral chapel from North Market St. and East Glendale Rd due to road construction on North Third ST. Memorials may be made to the Oskaloosa Christian School.
