Kansas City, Mo.–The William Penn men’s soccer team extended its winning streak to three by defeating Avila 3-1 in non-conference play Sunday.

William Penn (3-1) was outshot 10-8, but held a 5-3 edge in a strong first stanza. Two of the team’s first-half attempts found the back of the net.

Angelo Kelly (So., Ottumwa, Iowa, Physical Education) continued his great early-season production by getting the navy and gold on the board with an unassisted goal 22:27 into the afternoon. The sophomore now has three goals this fall.

Francis Koroma (Fr., Brooklyn Park, Minn., General Accounting) pushed the advantage to 2-0 just over five minutes later. His second goal of 2013 was assisted by Milo Bruce-Burgess (Jr., Brockenhurst, England, Physical Education) for his first statistical contribution at WPU.

Cem Olgar (Fr., Duesseldorf, Germany, Industrial Technology) wrapped up the visiting scoring in the 52nd minute off an assist by Mark Dryden (Sr., Arbroath, Scotland, Biology). Olgar is now tied with Kelly for the squad lead in goals, while Dryden has two assists.

The Eagles (2-1) finally scored at 57:06, but were unable to get any closer.

It is the first time the program has been two games over .500 since being 8-6-1 on October 19, 2010. The winning streak is WPU’s longest since also winning three in 2011.

Goalkeeper Pedro Pereira (Fr., Sao Paolo, Brazil, Communications) stopped five shots to remain perfect in 2013 (3-0).

Next: William Penn will play its home opener Friday by hosting Friends at 7 p.m. as part of the William Penn Classic.
