Ed McLandsborough, 90, of Oskaloosa formerly of rural Rose Hill, passed away Monday, January 23, 2017, at the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.

Paul Edward McLandsborough, son of John F. and Marie (Davis) McLandsborough, was born September 12, 1926 at the home of his parents in Adams Township in northeast Mahaska County. Although Paul Edward was his given name, he was soon known as Ed.

In his youth Ed attended Johnson Country School and went on to graduate from Oskaloosa High School in 1944. He furthered his education at American Institute of Business.

Ed then went off to Washington D.C. and a job with the Boeing Company in logistics in air cargo. After being there for just a short time, he was called back to Iowa to operate the family farm. On September 1, 1951, Ed was united in marriage with Anne Adams. They made their home on the family farm, where they raised their four children. Ed farmed until 1980, at which time he began working a variety of jobs, including driving fertilizer trucks for M.F.A., doing custom work for area farmers, and performing a number of duties at the Oskaloosa Airport, which was his passion.

Ed got his pilot’s license at age 55 and flew for 30 years. He owned a Cessna 172 for 20 of those years. He was also licensed as a hot air balloon pilot.

Ed was member of the Central United Methodist Church, the Oskaloosa Elks Lodge, and was a past member of Flying Farmers. He had a natural inquisitiveness about life and was continually learning about new things. He enjoyed his family immensely and always was interested in knowing what was happening in their lives. He was the ultimate caregiver, taking care of his mother, step-mother, father and sisters-in-law over the years.

His family includes his wife of 65 years, Anne of Oskaloosa; his children and their spouses: David (& Denise) McLandsborough of Denver, CO, Daniel (& Marie) McLandsborough of Logan, IA; Russell (& Jan) McLandsborough of Overland Park, KS and Dianne (& John) Cox of Kirksville, MO; eight grandchildren: Jamie (& Skye Sant) McLandsborough of Denver, CO, Claire (& Tom) Delaney of Denver, CO, Austin (& Keri) McLandsborough of Omaha, NE, Lauren McLandsborough of Omaha, NE, Evan McLandsborough of Omaha, NE, Maggie McLandsborough of Kansas City, MO, Andy McLandsborough of Overland Park, KS, and Kaleb Cox of Kirksville, MO; and one great-grandson, Liam McLandsborough of Omaha.

In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by an infant son, Dean, a granddaughter, Kenadee; his brother, John; sisters, Maybelle and Mary; sisters-in-law, Jean Adams and Marilyn DeVault Gattley.
