EBF Volleyball Sweeps Cardinal to Stay Perfect, Improve to 9-0
The Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont (EBF) Rockets continued their dominant run, sweeping the Cardinal Comets in straight sets (25-11, 25-5, 25-7) on Thursday night to remain unbeaten and improve to 9-0. Ranked second in Class 2A, EBF showcased their power and precision, delivering a commanding performance in front of their home crowd.
Senior Molly Shafer was a force at the net, leading the charge with 20 kills on 23 attacks, while adding four digs, three blocks, and an ace to her impressive stat line. Her younger sister, Kate Shafer, orchestrated the offense with 31 assists, while also chipping in four kills, two digs, and an ace.
From the first whistle, EBF controlled the pace of the match, capitalizing on their aggressive serving and precise passing. Head coach noted, “We had goals to take care of the pass tonight and serve aggressively, and we achieved that goal. Total team effort on this win.”
Lacey Taylor added to the offensive firepower, recording 10 kills on 13 attacks and staying perfect from the service line, going 7-for-7 while picking up seven digs. The Rockets also received a strong serving performance from Kinley Lobberecht, who tallied four aces on 17 successful serves.
Defensively, EBF’s back row was just as sharp, with Kaylee Helm contributing six digs and two aces, and Layni Burch adding two aces and two digs of her own. “We controlled the pass very well, which allowed us to dominate on offense,” said the coach. “We’ve been working on passing better with free balls, and I feel our focus toward that was executed well.”
Cardinal struggled to keep pace with EBF’s relentless attack and aggressive serving. EBF’s ability to control the match from start to finish was evident, as they outscored the Comets by wide margins in all three sets.
The Rockets now turn their attention to their next challenge, a tournament at Southeast Polk on Saturday. “It’ll be a challenging tournament for us, but we’ll work towards controlling our pass and continuing to serve aggressively,” the coach said. Following the tournament, EBF will travel to Knoxville next week for a key conference matchup during Homecoming week.
