EBF Volleyball Dominates Chariton on Senior Night, Improves to 26-2

The EBF Rockets celebrated Senior Night in style on October 8, 2024, with a commanding 3-0 victory over Chariton. The Rockets, who improved their overall record to 26-2 and remain undefeated in South Central Conference play at 5-0, won the match with scores of 25-13, 25-13, and 25-14.

Leading the way for EBF was standout senior Molly Shafer, who delivered an impressive 26 kills, 6 digs, and 2 aces while going 28/32 on attacks. Shafer also reached a major career milestone during the match, recording her 2,000th career kill—a rare and remarkable achievement in high school volleyball.

Her sister, Kate Shafer, also played a crucial role, contributing 4 kills, 35 assists, 4 digs, and 2 aces. Kate, who reached the 2,000-assist milestone last season, is now on track to hit 3,000 career assists, further cementing her legacy with the Rockets.

Other key contributors included Lacey Taylor with 7 kills and 5 digs, Kaylee Helm with 8 digs and 3 aces, and Chloe Lyon, who added 2 kills, 3 blocks, and a dig.

Head coach Gladys Genscow praised the team, especially the seniors, for their dedication to the program over the past four years, saying, “These seniors have built a culture of success here at EBF, and we are so thankful for their hard work and sacrifices. Their leadership has been instrumental in maintaining this program’s winning tradition.”

Although Genscow noted that the team started a little slow due to the emotions of Senior Night, she was confident in their ability to rise to the occasion as the match progressed. “This team has proven time and again that they can elevate their play and be successful, even when facing challenges.”

The Rockets will now turn their attention to their next match on Thursday, as they travel to Oskaloosa for a non-conference showdown with the Indians
