Donald Slack, age 67, of Oskaloosa, passed away on December 10, 2021, at the Mahaska Health Partnership in Oskaloosa, Iowa, surrounded by his family. He was born on September 19, 1954, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Arthur J. and Irene A. (Barnett) Slack.

Donald attended the Eddyville High School and graduated with the Class of 1974. During his time in high school, he was a standout track athlete. After high school he enrolled in the welding program at Indian Hills Community College.

In June of 1982, Donald was united in marriage to Daina Dye in Kirkville, Iowa. To this union two children were born, Amanda and Jessica. Donald and Daina later divorced in 1996.

Donald worked as a farmhand in his earlier years. He later utilized his welding skills and went to work at Vermeer in Pella for over 21 years.

Donald had a love for the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed drawing, watching T.V., NASCAR races and cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes sports teams, especially the football team. His real joy in life was spending time with his grandchildren. Donald was a caring man who had an impact on many peoples lives.

He is survived by his two daughters, Amanda Allsup of Oskaloosa and Jessica Slack (Sarah Speranske) of Oskaloosa; his grandchildren: Gavin Meeks, Gauge Allsup, Dace Meeks and Bryant Allsup; his siblings: Diane Hicks of Ottumwa, Mark (Patty) Slack of Kirkville, Joseph Slack of Ottumwa and Ronald (Cathy) Slack of New Sharon. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and a nephew, Gregory Slack.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Chad Lierman officiating.

Burial will follow services in the Westview Cemetery in Kirkville, Iowa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation with the family present will be held in the Bates Funeral Chapel on Monday beginning after 11:00 a.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral chapel to greet guests and relatives.

Memorials may be made to the family.
