Danny Mitchell, 73, of Oskaloosa, passed away Friday, December 16, 2022, at the Mahaska Health Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. Daniel Ray Mitchell, son of Jack Lewis and Norma Jean (Rogers) Mitchell, was born November 21, 1949, in Albia, Iowa.

After his parents moved to Des Moines, he went to school in Altoona and completed his education there.

On September 7, 1968, Daniel married Judy Smith of Albia in Knoxville, Iowa. They made their first home in Des Moines.

Daniel joined the Army on August 18, 1969. He attended heavy equipment school at Fort Leonard, MO. He was honorably discharged on August 17, 1971, at the rank of E-5, a Vietnam War veteran.

In 1971, after returning from the military, Daniel and Judy moved to Oskaloosa; Daniel was hired at Clow Valve Company, where he worked for seven years. In 1977, Daniel went to work at Pella Corp; he worked there for 30 ½ years, building sliding doors, and retired in 2007.

Daniel was always ready to go fishing, and he also enjoyed camping. Daniel loved to play the guitar and played with the Fenderman III Band, Steve, Buck, and Mitch, for 14 years.

Daniel’s family includes his wife, Judy of Oskaloosa; his daughters: Kimberly Sue (& Tim) Guthrie of Des Moines and Tonya (& David) Rice of Oskaloosa; three grandchildren: Ethan (& Bridgette) Rice of Oskaloosa, Leah (& Issac) McKee of Oskaloosa and Rachel Rice of Oskaloosa; three great-grandchildren: Sofia and Harlow McKee and Gunner Rice; a brother, Bryan (& Tina) Mitchell of Altoona; two sisters, Virginia (& Charlie) Smith of Texas and Rena Mitchell of Altoona, IA.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Norma Mitchell; and a sister, Cheryl Wolfe.

Memorial services for Danny will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 19, 2023, at Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. When attending, use the North 11th Street entrance and proceed to the newest east addition in the cemetery.
The Oskaloosa Honor Guard will present Military Honors.

Langkamp Funeral Chapel and Crematory is entrusted with his arrangements.
