Coming Home to Penn
Oskaloosa, Iowa – Join us for an evening dedicated to celebrating 140 years of William Penn University’s extensive and varied history while looking ahead to preserving and adding to its rich heritage. On Thursday, October 3, 2013 from 5:30–7:00 pm, in the Green Family Lounge of Lewis Hall, William Penn University will host members of the community, faculty, staff, and constituents for an event titled Coming Home to Penn. As the official start of the Homecoming and 140th Anniversary celebration, the event will include a program presented by Julie Hansen, Librarian for the Wilcox Library. Discover the history of Penn College through the images in Wilcox Library’s Digital Archives while Hansen shares stories of the founding and early years of what is now William Penn University.
The highlight of the evening will be the unveiling of a Limited Edition, Commemorative Art Print commissioned by Oskaloosa native Marjorie Vande Wall. Vande Wall, a 1994 William Penn graduate, began teaching in the WPU Art Department in 1994 and currently serves as the Community College Liaison in the Office of Admissions. Each print has been signed and numbered by the artist, and comes with a certificate of authenticity. The watercolor painting will be available for purchase that evening with proceeds designated for special projects identified by the William Penn Historical Preservation Committee.
The program will begin at 6:00 pm. Hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will be served. As an important part of the history, growth, and success of William Penn University, the community is encouraged to attend the Coming Home to Penn event on Thursday, October 3.
