Cobin is MWC Men’s Tennis Performer of the Week
GRINNELL, Iowa – A successful performance on the team’s spring break trip to Orlando, Fla., propelled Grinnell College’s Ben Cobin ’20 to the Midwest Conference Men’s Tennis Performer of the Week honor.
Cobin, from St. Louis, Mo. (Ladue Horton Watkins), was a model of consistency during the trip that included a Pioneer victory over nationally-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology. Cobin went a combined 7-1 in matches, going 4-0 in singles play including a match-clinching 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles against Stevens. Cobin added a 3-1 mark in doubles play with Bowen Mince ’22 where they battled the nation’s 16th-ranked Stevens’ duo to a narrow 8-7 decision at the No. 1 spot.
During the trip, Cobin moved up to 20th in Pioneer history with 55 career singles wins and 21st in doubles victories with 57. Grinnell finished 5-1 on spring break and outscored its foes by a 40-14 margin in games to improve to 13-3 on the season.
