Coates Recipient of Track POW Honor

Oskaloosa–Jackson Coates (So., Aldie, Va., Engineering Technology) tallied a pair of event victories last week, and for that he was named Heart of America Athletic Conference Men’s Track Athlete of the Week Monday.

The award is Coates’ first and comes after he won two event titles at the Grand View Classic last Friday.

The sophomore, who entered into three competitions, tallied wins in the long jump (22-11.25) and the triple jump (44-10.75). He also managed to place fifth in the 200-meter dash in 22.77 seconds.

Coates currently ranks second in the Heart in the triple jump (46-1.25) and fourth in the long jump (23-2.75); he is just 6.75 seconds shy of qualifying for nationals in the triple and 2.75 inches away in the long. The sophomore is seventh amongst Heart competitors in the 100-meter dash (10.90 seconds) and 11th in the 200 (22.38).

The award is WPU’s third this year.
