The Community Improvement Division of the Oskaloosa Fire Department would like to remind citizens of the ordinances pertaining to garage and yard sale signs.

17.30.030 General sign and street graphics regulations.

C. Prohibited Signs. The following signs are prohibited in all zoning districts.

5. Portable Signs. Signs that are not permanently anchored or secured to either a building or the ground.

6. Off-premise Signs on Public Property. Off premise signs located on public property is being used for public purposes.

“Portable sign” means any sign supported by frames or posts rigidly attached to bases not permanently attached to the ground or a building and capable of being moved from place to place.

This includes any type of material attached to traffic signs, utility poles, or trees including but not limited to: posters, balloons, streamers, etc.

The Oskaloosa Fire Department has been, and will continue to confiscate and discard any signs placed in the public right of way. The addresses on those signs will be compiled into a database and repeat offenses could potentially face legal action.

We ask for your assistance to help keep Oskaloosa clean and looking presentable for both residents and visitors. If you see your neighbor has put out some signs, please remind them that what they are doing is against the city code.
