Oskaloosa – October 8, 2013 – Chris Roach has been named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Oskaloosa Rotary Club. The distinction means Roach has shown dedication to his community and Rotary’s mission by contributing $1,000 or more to the Rotary Foundation.

The Rotary Foundation’s goal is to achieve world understanding and peace through international humanitarian grants and educational programs, as well as working to prevent infectious diseases.

One of its most famous programs, Polio Plus, strives to eliminate polio across the world. Rotary, along with its partners, has reduced polio cases by 99 percent worldwide since the first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979.

Roach says it’s important to not only support the people of Oskaloosa, but to recognize the needs of people thousands of miles away.

“Being a Rotarian and giving to The Rotary Foundation is truly an honor,” says Roach. “Very little money that is raised for the Foundation is wasted and so much good is done in the world by Rotary because of the money raised in local clubs like ours. I’m proud to be a Paul Harris Fellow.”
