PELLA—Central College’s Branden Stubbs (junior, Pleasant Hill, Des Moines Christian HS) has been named the Iowa Conference men’s basketball player of the week.

Stubbs, a 6-2 guard, tallied 17 points and 11 assists for his first season double-double in an 82-58 win at Martin Luther College (Minn.) Friday. Stubbs shot 46.2 percent from the field and also had three rebounds and two steals.

Stubbs is averaging a league-best 6.44 assists per game and is second in the league in scoring (16.6) and steals (1.78).

It’s the second time this season that a Central player has received the honor. Guard Nick Marinkovich (junior, Clarendon Hills, Ill., Hinsdale Central HS) was cited Nov. 26.

Central, 7-3 overall, has a break for the holidays before returning to action Jan. 5 with its conference opener at Coe College.
