Central’s Stetzel wins conference honor

PELLA—Central College junior outfielder Sam Stetzel (Perry) is the Iowa Conference male athlete of the week.

Meanwhile, junior Dirk Lindaman (Ankeny) is the conference baseball pitcher of the week.

Stetzel hit .571 with a double and three runs batted in as the Dutch went 4-0 last week at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, Fla. He slugged .643 and scored four runs while drawing two walks. Stetzel, a 2011 second-team all-league pick, posted two 3-for-4 efforts and had two sacrifice hits. Defensively, he had eight putouts.

Lindaman recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts in a 10-0 eight-inning win over Principia College (Ill.). In 7.1 innings, Lindaman faced 27 batters and gave up just one hit.

Central is 6-1 overall and returns to action Tuesday with a nine-inning matchup against Monmouth College (Ill.).
