Central’s Beatty wins league track and field honor

PELLA—For the second time this season, Central College’s Sam Beatty (senior, Mount Pleasant) is the field performer of the week in American Rivers men’s indoor track and field.

Beatty received the award for the third time in his career after winning the high jump at the Darren Young Classic at Grinnell Saturday. Beatty soared a career indoor best of 6 feet, 10.25 inches to move into second place on the NCAA Division III indoor qualifying list. The jump matched his career outdoor-best jump from the conference meet last spring.

Central took first place in the 10-team meet with 113.5 points. The Dutch compete at the Liz Wuertz Invitational at Waverly Saturday at 11 a.m.

The NCAA national meet is set for March 10-11 in Birmingham, Alabama. Beatty earned indoor all-America distinction in last year’s NCAA meet by tying for eighth place.
