Central women’s soccer team ends regular season with loss
DUBUQUE- The Central College women’s soccer team fell in its final regular season match to Loras College 3-0.
“Today we ran into a top team, a tough challenge but I felt we were competitive in moments but couldn’t get things generated the way we are accustomed to,” said coach Mike Kobylinski.
The Dutch (10-6-2, 3-3-2 American Rivers) were only able to get one shot off which was on goal from Rachel Mendlik (freshman, Spring Grove, Ill., Richmond Burton HS).
“We struggled to get into a rhythm and that is (Loras’s) style which is tough on opponents,” Kobylinski said.
Loras (17-0, 8-0 American Rivers) is currently the No. 11 ranked team Division III scored two goals in the first half before adding one more in the second half.
Goalkeeper Zoey Sizemore (sophomore, Omaha, Neb., Mercy HS) collected eight saves.
This match ends a three-week unbeaten streak for the team.
“One takeaway from the last month is we are a tough team to beat and have generated momentum to carry into the conference tournament,” Kobylinski said.
For the 12th time in the past 13 seasons Central qualified for the conference tournament. The Dutch finished the regular season as the No. 5 seed in the A-R-C which means the team will hit the road and take on the University of Dubuque for the first round on Saturday, and the start time is to be determined.
