Central’s Grieger named league player of the week
PELLA—Central College senior libero Chelsea Grieger (Pella) is the Iowa Conference volleyball libero/defensive specialist of the week for the fifth time this fall.
Grieger continued her record-breaking season at the Wis.-La Crosse Invitational last weekend. Already holding the season digs per set record and surpassing the career digs mark, Grieger broke the school season digs record of 698 set by Callie Collins (2003). Grieger now has 723 digs.
The Dutch captured the tournament trophy, compiling a 4-0 record, and Grieger received all-tournament team distinction.
Grieger tallied 118 digs in five matches last week, including two thirty-plus matches. She also had three ace serves and two assists. Grieger leads the league in digs per set (6.11).
Grieger is a two-time league pick, earning first-team honors in 2010 and second-team recognition in 2009. She is a two-time academic all-conference selection and has been named to seven all-tournament teams. It’s the ninth time Grieger has been cited as player of the week.
The Dutch (22-9 overall, 4-3 conference) finish their regular season schedule Tuesday in Waverly, taking on preseason league favorite Wartburg College (21-10 overall, 6-1 conference) at 7:30 p.m. Central has already secured a spot in the six-team league tournament beginning Nov. 1.
