Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa High School Physical Education Department will continue to make a difference in the health and wellness of their students at Oskaloosa High School by adding a new Cardio/Wellness Room! The re-modeling of a former art classroom will begin when school dismisses for summer vacation and be ready to use in the Fall of 2012 when classes resume.

The Physical Education Department is pleased to announce that they have received funding recently from:

Lois J. Vermeer, Executive Secretary of Vermeer, informed the Oskaloosa Physical Education Department that the Vermeer Charitable Foundation awarded a $2000 grant for the Cardio/Wellness room.

On May 7, the Oskaloosa Education Foundation granted the Oskaloosa High School Physical Education Department a $2500 contribution for the Cardio/Wellness room.

During the OHS graduation ceremony on Sunday, May 20, Lincoln Morris, President of the Oskaloosa Class of 2012, announced that the senior gift of $1000 would go toward the new Cardio/Wellness room.

The Cardio/Wellness room will help address community issues concerning healthy lifestyle choices! Our 9-12 Oskaloosa students will be granted an opportunity to succeed in the area of wellness through the use of new equipment that will be in the Cardio/Wellness Room. An improvement in wellness and a healthy lifestyle can lead to an increase in self-esteem, improving academic performance and an overall quality of life.

Our students are the future of this community! Having healthy youth in Oskaloosa will lead to a healthier community in the future. They will be more productive employees, leaders and citizens. Students can also use what they have learned in school to teach other family members the importance of being physically fit.

The Oskaloosa High School Physical Education Department is still seeking community support to make a difference in the health and wellness of the students at Oskaloosa High School. Potential funders or partners can learn more about how to get involved by contacting one of Physical Education teachers (Ginny Foster, Cyndy Gray or Mark Schilb).
