Capital Beat: January 26
The Iowa General Assembly was in session today operating on a light schedule for the day. The house convened at about 8:30 am. In the morning session, two new bills were introduced. HF 110, an Act relating to assisted living programs, was introduced/sponsored by Representatives Isenthart and Hunter. HF 112, an Act relating to rules adopted by environmental protection commission, was also introduced. This bill was sponsored by Representatives Heaton, Forristall, Drake, Iverson, Garrett, Jorgenson, Baudler, Huseman, Chambers, Balitmore. Shortly thereafter, the House recessed.
In the morning session of the Senate, the Senate recognized three foreign visitors. Huai Wong, May-May Ng, and Tim Ng were all recognized as guests from China. The Senate also introduced and voted on SF 72, an act relating to professions which may practice together in professional limited liability companies and including effective and applicability date provisions. This bill was introduced by the Senate Committee on Human Resources. It was passed on a vote of 44-5 and was sent to the house for consideration.
In the late afternoon session of the house, two new bills were presented as well as a bill received from the Senate. HF113, an act requiring citizenship or lawful presence in the country as a condition of applying for student financial assistance for students attending post secondary institutions, was introduced by Represntative Brandenburg. HF 126, an act relating to the filing of lobbyist registration and lobbyist’s client reports with the general assembly, was introduced by the House Ethics Committee. The house also received and introduced SF 72. No action was taken on any introduced bills in the house today.
The General Assembly will be in action again tomorrow with the Senate set to convene at 7:00 am and the house at 8:30 am.
