Bunce Wins Title as WPU Closes Regular Season at Last Chance Invite

Pella–The William Penn men’s wrestling team had a handful of grapplers hit the mat one more time before the league championship as the Statesmen competed at the Central Last Chance Invitational Friday.

Kael Bunce (Jr., Stockbridge, Mich., Mechanical Engineering) will be entering the national qualifier on a high note as he won the 157-pound weight class title. The junior defeated all three of his opponents, including tallying a fall and a major decision. His night concluded with a 7-4 victory over Ryan Mohrfeld of Central in the championship bout.

Braden Peglow (Fr., Vail, Ariz., Business Management) also managed multiple victories (2-2 record) at 165 pounds, headlined by winning one match by major decision.

174-pounder Elijah Ramirez (Fr., El Paso, Texas, Civil Engineering) pinned one foe, while 125-pounder Brendan Nantz (So., Tipton, Iowa, Industrial Technology) and 133-pounder Sabri Sino (Fr., Franklin, Wis., Sports Management) each claimed a technical fall victory.

Jeffery Myers (Fr., Yelm, Wash., Education) had his hand raised once at 125 pounds as well.

Next Up: William Penn returns to Oskaloosa next Saturday, February 25 to host the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship. Action begins at 9 a.m. in the Penn Activity Center.
