Bryce Hudnut
December 7, 2001 – October 6, 2021
Logan (Montezuma), Iowa | Age 19

Bryce Hudnut, 19, of Logan, Iowa and formerly of Montezuma, Iowa passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2021 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Bryce Christopher Hudnut was born on December 7, 2001 in Grinnell, Iowa to Chris and Kari Hudnut and he was Brayden’s little brother.

Bryce was raised in Montezuma and moved to Logan at the age of 13. Bryce attended Montezuma Community Schools until junior high and he graduated from Logan-Magnolia Community Schools in 2020. Bryce was employed at the family business, Midwest Structural Repair, located in Logan.

Bryce, you were born three years behind Brayden, Seth and Joel. Your mother was so worried you were going to be harassed as the youngest child, how would you stand a chance? Your brother and cousins were rambunctious and had already established their boy group, how would you fit in? Little did we know, holding you in our arms as a beautiful baby, you would grow into the strongest-willed toddler anyone had ever seen. Soon, you were chasing your brother and cousins and they were the ones crying for their mothers. Your father is strong-willed, he’s known throughout Iowa as a tough cookie. You, little man, gave your father a run for his money at two years old and you would continue to hold your own as you grew into adolescence.

You loved to fish and get slimy and dirty with the boys out at the lake. You ran around the yard holding your fish trophies high for all to see. You laughed and played and built memories that your friends and family would cherish. You were watched from windows and observers would laugh with the joy your antics brought them. Your smile was so big it could be seen from a great distance. Who’s that? It’s Bryce they would say, we can tell by his huge grin.
You played baseball and football and you became our wrestling legend. You were the kid that showed heart and humbleness when we knew you could win your wrestling match, but you decided to give your opponent all the glory. Your parents and grandparents loved every minute watching you storm down the field or laying it all out on the mat. You were fierce, giving all you had for your team. You showed us what true sportsmanship was and we will never forget your passion. Logan-Magnolia Football is retiring your jersey, your legacy will be remembered.

Your passion for sports evolved into a passion for hunting. You planned and plotted and tracked big bucks, geared for all-day adventures in the timber like Wild America. You shared your love of hunting with your friends, and they will tell stories about your mishaps and successes as they remember you.
You were our knight in shining armor. You were our beautiful boy with the brightest smile and the biggest heart. You gave hugs freely and you made everyone around you feel special. You fought for the weak and encouraged the strong. We were not prepared to lose you so suddenly, so dramatically, so painfully. We will honor you with tears and precious memories. We imagine life without you and it breaks our hearts. We love you so much Bryce, and we know that you are fishing with Grandpa in heaven, making new stories to share with us when we next meet again.

Bryce is loved by his father and mother, Chris and Kari Hudnut and his brother, Brayden Hudnut; his grandparents, Larry and Dixie Hudnut and Sandra Bond; his great grandfather, Phillip Grier; his aunts and uncles, Scott and Mandy Hudnut, Troy and Rachel Cranston, Amanda Hudnut, Kevin Hudnut, Kirk and Jill Altringer Bond and Mark and Katie Bond; his cousins, Michael and Nicholas Hudnut, Seth and Megan Cranston, Joel Cranston, Garrett, Josephine, Gable, and Jaelyn Bond, Brock and Brandt Bond and Tate and Ellie Fina along with many other relatives and friends.

Bryce was preceded in death by his grandfather, Reuel Briggs and his step-grandfather, James Bond.

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at the Community Hope Church in Montezuma. Burial will be held in the Goldenrod Cemetery in Deep River immediately following the service. Following the burial, family and friends are invited to the Community Hope Fellowship Hall to celebrate the life of Bryce. Visitation will begin after 2:00 pm Monday, October 11, 2021 at Community Hope Church with the family present from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lo-Ma Athletics or in the family’s name to have a memorial placed at Diamond Lake in Bryce’s honor. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.

To Bryce…
One day I accidentally called you “Honey,” and it became our secret joke. I’d see you in the hallway, and walk past and whisper, “Hi, honey! Have a great day!” and you’d turn and look straight in my eyes, give me your famous full-face smile, and nod back at me. I watched you grow from a squirrely kid into an incredible young man. Your kindness and empathy for others was unmatched. I heard story after story today from kids on all sides, from all cliques, sharing stories on how your kindness was your enduring trait.
They say that a parent should never have to outlive a child. Teachers, too, should never outlive the shining stars they grow to care for, dream for, and love. While our pain can never be compared to a parent’s pain…we shed quiet tears, mourn unfulfilled dreams, and choke down sobs as we continue to build those attributes, knowledge, and skills in others.
Bryce was Ours. He brought joy. His positivity bred positivity in others…even when we thought it was lost. The thought that I will never turn the corner and have the possibility of seeing “Honey” and his endearing, broad, genuine, brilliant smile again…breaks my heart.
Bryce…you were…and are…and forever will be…a loved and valuable person in the lives of many…including me.
