Bronze to Statesmen at MVC Invite
Marshall, Mo.–The William Penn men’s golf team was seeking to knock off a solid league foe, but came up a bit shy as it competed at the Missouri Valley Invitational Tuesday.
The Statesmen placed third out of 11 teams with a score of 300 at the one-day tourney hosted at the par-72 Indian Foothills Park GC. Host Missouri Valley, which is unofficially 34th in the nation, won the event at 289. Ujang Zarems of Graceland earned medalist honors in the 60-player field at three-under 69.
Frederik Lundsgaard (Jr., Jebjerg, Denmark, History/Government) and Sebastian Rulis (Jr., Denmark, Business Management) guided WPU as they tied for fifth with scores of 73.
Clay Tucker (Sr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Elementary Education) and Brandon Dizon (Sr., San Leandro, Calif., Sociology) also matched each other’s rounds, tying for 20th at 77, while Zachary Chegwidden (Fr., Essex, England, Business Management) tied for 24th at 79.
William Penn had a second team on the links as well and the group finished 10th at 351. Zach Swink (Sr., Burlington, Iowa, Sociology) tied for 39th at 84, while Kyle Hashimoto (Sr., Acampo, Calif., Exercise Science) carded an 87 to tie for 45th. Beau Squires (Sr., Conrad, Iowa, History/Government and Sociology) finished in a tie for 51st at 89, Skylar Cunningham (So., Knoxville, Iowa, History/Government) tied for 55th at 91, and Cade Hartman (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev., Business Management) was 59th overall at 94.
A trio of individuals also played Tuesday with Bradley Hamilton (So., Earlham, Iowa, Physical Education) leading them in a tie for 47th at 88. Rory Schafer (Jr., Solwezi, Zambia, Mechanical Engineering) (T-51st, 89) and Marcus Littleton (Sr., Norwalk, Iowa, Communications) (T-55th, 91) swung the sticks as well.
Next Up: William Penn will conclude its fall schedule by returning to Oskaloosa Sunday and Monday to host the William Penn Classic. Play will be contested at Edmundson Golf Course.
