Breakfast To Benefit A Hero and His Family

Deputy Eric Stein

With the tragic loss of Keokuk County Deputy Eric Stein on April 4th of this year, a community was left stunned, and a young girl was left without her father.

The thoughts of that day are still burned into the memory of locals, by our law enforcement, fire and rescue personnel and most of all the family of Deputy Stein. All of whom are still looking for ways to say good-bye, and do what they can to help those left behind.

Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office will be offering, for those interested in helping, an opportunity to come out for some breakfast that will be served by the Mahaska County Sheriff Department and the Posse. The event will be held at the American Legion in Oskaloosa, located at 302 High Ave East, starting at 7 a.m. and going until noon.

With a 5 dollar suggested donation, you will get Biscuits and Gravy. With the money raised, the Department will be looking at purchasing a memorial bench and or plaque to be placed at the Sheriffs Office in Keokuk County. Mahaska County Sheriff Paul DeGeest said, “Something that will be there for years to come.” DeGeest said that the remainder will be placed in the memorial fund.

If you are unable to make it to the benefit breakfast, but you would still like to donate, you are welcome to “write a check to the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Posse and put into the memo that it’s for the Stein Benefit and we will see that every cent gets to them.” says Mahaska County Deputy Matt McCain on the Fundraisers Facebook Event Page.
