Bonatto Ends Career as First-Team All-American
Oskaloosa–Eduardo Bonatto (Sr., Rio Grande, Brazil, Business Management) was picked as one of the top players in the nation as the NAIA announced its Men’s Soccer All-America teams Wednesday.
Bonatto was named to the First Team, joining just 10 other players from the entire NAIA. A second and third team, consisting of 11 individuals each, were also picked, as well as 61 honorable mentions.
The senior is just the second All-American in program history and the first to receive top squad recognition. He joins Tugberk Tekdemir (2006, Honorable Mention) on the exclusive list.
Bonatto led William Penn to its best campaign in school history, finishing 15-5-1 and reaching the NAIA National Championship for the first time ever.
A first-team all-Heart of America Athletic Conference honoree, he set school records for goals (17) and points (41) this fall. Bonatto finished the season with 87 shots (54 on goal) and managed four game-winning goals. The senior was 5-for-7 in penalty kicks and won two Heart Offensive Player of the Week awards, while claiming one NAIA laurel.
Bonatto was one of 13 representatives from the Heart on the All-America teams. Five of the first-teamers (10 of 22 first and second-teamers as well) were from within the conference. Stefan Lukic of Oklahoma Wesleyan was chosen as NAIA National Player of the Year.
