Betty L. White, 87, of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born January 30, 1934, in Waterloo, Iowa the daughter of Jack and Alice (Card) Ritzman.

Betty attended North High School in Des Moines, Iowa and graduated with the Class of 1952.

On October 12, 1952, Betty was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” White in Des Moines. Together they enjoyed 60 years of marriage until Bob’s passing on December 20, 2012.

Early on Betty worked at the Telephone Company in Des Moines and helped at Dee’s Flowers part time. She also sold Avon cosmetics for many years. Most of all, she was a homemaker who enjoyed taking care of her home and caring for her husband and their two girls.

Betty was a talented seamstress and an excellent cook and talented cake decorator. She enjoyed cooking and baking, especially Santa Claus cookies and rolls. Betty volunteered her time at Share Iowa and End of the Month Meals.

Betty attended the Evangelical Church as well as Calvary Bible in Oskaloosa. Early on she was active at the Gospel Tabernacle teaching Sunday School. Betty loved spending time with Bob and their family, especially on their many fishing trips to Minnesota and Canada.

Her family includes her two daughters, Rhonda (& Doug) Callison of Oskaloosa and Cathy White-Rice of Des Moines; five grandchildren: Ryan (& Dana) Rice, Justin (& Lea) Rice, Gabriel Rice, Angela (& Travis) Miller, Brad (& Julie) Boender, and Nick (& Megan) Callison; thirteen great grandchildren: Aubrey Miller, Tyler Miller, Trey Miller, Jacob Rice, Collin Rice, Emily Rice, Alice Rice, Avery Boender, Brielle Boender, Brooklynn Boender, Ellie Callison, Theo Callison and Lennie Callison; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Betty was preceded in death by her parents; and a grandson in infancy, Larry Robert Rice; 3 brothers, Calvin Ritzman, Gordon Ritzman and Jack Ritzman; and 2 sisters, Shirley Hixenbaugh and Carol Clough.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Doug Smiley officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Friday, October 29, 2021, at 12 noon in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5:30 to 7:30 Friday evening to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to Calvary Bible Church in Oskaloosa.
