Oskaloosa–The William Penn baseball team has announced its team awards for the 2012 season as chosen by player voting.

Randall Packard (Sr., Forestville, Calif., Cal State-Monterey) was named Offensive Player of the Year, while Aaron Laird (Sr., Oskaloosa, Oskaloosa HS) claimed Defensive Player of the Year laurels.

A first-team all-Midwest Collegiate Conference selection, Packard hit .356 with two home runs, a league-best 47 RBIs, and 23 runs scored. Laird went 52 fielding chances without committing an error.

Pitcher of the Year accolades were given to Jorge Quezada (Jr., San Ysidro, Calif., Castle Park HS), and the annual Ty Lewis Award was presented to Brad Chin (Sr., San Rafael, Calif., San Rafael HS).

Quezada joined Packard on the MCC’s first team, going 7-4 with a 2.72 Earned Run Average. He struck out 89 batters (16 walks) in 86 innings of work.

Chin ended his four-year Statesmen career with a .284 batting clip. The senior had one home run, 20 RBIs, and 26 runs scored.

William Penn was 20-26 this year, including a 13-11 mark in the MCC.
