ASA Softball hosts a National qualifier at the Lacey Recreation Complex in Oskaloosa
Greg Dickel, the ASA Junior Olympic District Commissioner for Central and Southern Iowa, held a USA National qualifier tournament for 14U level ASU softball at the Lacey Complex Saturday and Sunday May 18-19th. Fourteen teams competed from Region Twelve including teams from Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas and Illinois. Dickel stated that the 14 teams competed for one spot in the USA/ASA National Championship in Normal Illinois and the winner will move on to receive a bid to this championship competition. “Some of the top midwest players are here this week and most will play on a National Stage,” said Dickel. Of the complex he went to add “This is my first time here and it is a beautiful complex. Every coach in the tournament complimented the complex. It’s by far the best I’ve been to in Iowa.” The Nebraska Furry played the Missouri Firesticks in the final game of the qualifier, Furry taking the championship in a score of 13 to zero. Dickel is already looking at open dates next year to return to Lacey for future tournaments.
