Arthur Mitchell, 84, of Oskaloosa, died Monday, April 22, 2013, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.

Arthur was born January 5, 1929, in Albia, Iowa, the son of Elmer and Rena McClean Mitchell. Art worked for Goodwin Brick and Tile in Des Moines for over 30 years. On September 14, 1976, he was united in marriage to Ruth Hoffman at Des Moines. In retirement Art worked for A.A.R.P. He attended the First Assembly of God Church in Oskaloosa and always enjoyed attending the O.K. Bunch activities. He was active in the Salvation Army. He also enjoyed fishing and playing BINGO. Art had a soft spot in his heart for dogs, especially Toby and Dolly.

His family includes his wife of over 36 years Ruth Mitchell of Oskaloosa; many nieces and nephews; and a sister in law, Norma Jean Mitchell of Des Moines.

Art was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Beverly Wallace and Gloria Jensen; a brother, Jack Mitchell; his step dad, Johnny Jensen; and a brother in law, Norman Wallace.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. in the First Assembly of God Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Michael Dotson officiating.
Graveside Military Rites will be given by members of the Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W.
Burial will be in the University Park Cemetery in University Park. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Tuesday after 1:30 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel Tuesday evening from 5-6 p.m. to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Arthur Mitchell Memorial Fund.
