Annual Festival Scheduled
Marion County – The annual Marion County Historical Society’s Festival of Trees will be held November 17th and 18th from 1 to 5 pm each day at the Marion County Park in Knoxville. This event is free and open to the public. There will be more than 40 trees decorated by various organizations and individuals throughout the buildings in the historical village. The winner of the Best Tree contest will be determined by the amount of money placed in a bank beside each tree. The top three trees with the most money in their bank will receive a cash prize. The net proceeds from all the votes will go to Marion County Community Action for Christmas baskets for families in need.
There will be a silent auction, demonstrations in the buildings and homemade goodies for sale in the general store. On Saturday Katie Davis and her folk singing group will perform in the chapel from 2 to 3 pm. On both days, there will be mule drawn wagon rides all afternoon. Also, local author Helen Boertje will be with us on Saturday and Sunday in the schoolhouse signing copies of her recently published book, “When One Room Fit All, the country schools of Marion County, IA.” While browsing through the 6 binders of information, you may find other pictures that she can copy for you.
Free refreshments of cider, coffee and cookies will be served. This is a great way for you and your family to spend an afternoon getting into the holiday spirit while having some good old-fashioned fun.
The Marion County Park is located at 306 Willets Drive. For more information about the Festival contact 641-891-6883 or 641-891-0218.
