Annette Meland, 84 of New Sharon passed away peacefully July 14, 2020 at the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. Annette Jane Meland, the daughter of Floyd and Marian (Pederson) Pegump, was born on August 9, 1935 in Vinton, Iowa.
Annette graduated from Newhall High School in 1955 where she excelled in basketball.
Annette was united in marriage to John Meland on March 24, 1956 in Newhall, Iowa. To this union two children were born, Sandi and Tom.
John was a cattle buyer and together they resided in several towns including: Newhall, New Sharon, Delmar, Van Horn and back to New Sharon in 1975 where Annette was homemaker and raised their children. John passed away in 1987.
While living in New Sharon, Annette was known for her newspaper column for the New Sharon Star that she wrote for several years. She lived at Prairie Homes for a number of years and was a people person and enjoyed her visits with friends and family. Annette was a member of the Prairie Knolls Country Club in New Sharon.
She is survived by her children, Sandi (& Bill) Livezey of New Sharon and Tom (& Kim) Meland of Pella; four grandchildren: Steve (& Jamie) Patterson of Williamsburg, Chelsie (& T.J.) Fisher of Wellman, Jon Meland of New Sharon and Joe (& Shana) Meland of Lacey; eight great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Lyons in Lake in the Hills, Illinois; and a special friend, Charlie Aldridge.
Annette was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Meland; and her in-laws, John and Jessie Meland.
As was her wish her body has been cremated and no services are scheduled.
A private burial will be held in the Highland Cemetery in New Sharon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to MHP Hospice Serenity House.
