Amanda Stefanik Capps Off Amazing Senior Season With Fourth Place Finish
Oskaloosa, Iowa – Amanda Stefanik capped of an amazing senior season with a fourth place finish at the Girls State Tennis Tournament in Waterloo. Her play was very impressive on day one. As the four seed, people were gunning for her and she did a great job of keeping her composure as the matches tightened up. The pressure is always on the higher seed. She held them off and advanced to the semi-finals.
Jalyn Deering proved to be too much for Amanda on Friday morning. Deering played a great match and Amanda struggled to get the wheels turning early. The second set was much closer than 6-2 but it was too little, too late. I was very pleased with how she hung around and kept fighting. Tennis is such a mental game and it’s very easy to change the climate of the match if you can rattle off a couple of games. Amanda really battled until the end of the match.
In the match for 3rd place, Amanda played a very steady Mary Eide from Ft. Dodge / St. Edmond. Amanda has a lot more weapons but Eide’s steady play and her ability to extend points eventually would win out. This match were very physical and I think Amanda was starting to run out of gas in the heat of the day. They had several very long points. Many times I would think Amanda had won a point only to see Eide track it down and throw up a lob and get back into the point.
The tournament was exciting…with many great players from all over the state. Amanda did well to get deep into the tournament against the tough competition. This was a great end to a great season for her. Oskaloosa should be very proud of her accomplishments.
