Alzada Utterback, 97, of Pella, passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2023, at the Pella Hospice House. She was born on January 19, 1926, in Rose Hill, Iowa. The daughter of William Walter (Bill) Huff and Sylvia Kelley Phillips.
Alzada attended school until 8th grade; she then entered the workforce.
Alzada worked at Williamson Economy Basement Shoe store in Oskaloosa until opening her own café the “Canteen” in Oskaloosa. Later, she worked at Shady Lodge in Oskaloosa as a waitress and Pierson Seeds before her retirement. She did at-home elderly care and devoted her time to taking care of her mother at her home for many years.
On December 31, 1978, Alzada was united in marriage to Roger Utterback in Oskaloosa.
Alzada loved playing bingo, slot machines and card games with her family and friends. She spent most of her time fishing, working in her flower garden, sewing, and being in the kitchen making her delicious homemade chicken and noodles. She was known for going above and beyond for her family and friends.
Her family includes her children: Danny (& Karen) Flick of Pella, Barb Goodyk of Pella, Sue Williamson of Pella, and Joe (& Patty) Kaskadden of Oskaloosa; 12 grandchildren: Pennie (& Jay) O’Connor, Joshua (& JJ) Flick, Alice Followill, Mark Williamson, Darin Williamson, Chad (& Lynn) Wichhart, Larry Wichhart, Kelley (& Chad Helle) Goodyk, Emily (& Jeff Langenfeld) Goodyk, Wiebe (& Aubrey) Goodyk, Sammy (& Amanda) Kaskadden, and Mary Kaskadden; 24 great-grandchildren including: Jaimie Williamson and Hayden Williamson, Zach Wichhart, Alex Wichhart, Lacy (& Geoff) Everly, Toryn Helle, Nobel Goodyk, Kobey Goodyk, Breckin and Ryder Langenfeld, Jesse Baldwin, Chris Baldwin, Aaron Baldwin, and Kameron Flick; Many great- great-grandchildren including, Keegan Wichhart, Haizlee Wichhart, Carson Smith, and Kynley Everly; Nieces: Cheryl (& Carl) Stopper, Alzada (& Royal) Tallman, and Mary (& John) Gemmer; great nieces and nephews: Kevin Stopper, Ashleigh Stopper, Makayla Annis, Jeremiah Annis, Courtney Tallman, Devin Huff, Bryce Wanbaugh, Maddy Gemmer, Lexi Wanbaugh, and Colten Gemmer; a sister-in-law, Vonda Huff; and dear friends David (& KayLene)Heller of Williston, North Dakota.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roger; a son, James Williamson; a sister, Dorothy Coulson; 2 brothers: Earl Pershing Waller “Jack” and Raymond Huff; a granddaughter, Cindy Glass; and a grandson, Jimmy Williamson.
As was Alzada’s wishes, her body will be cremated. Bates Funeral chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
A graveside service and burial will take place Friday, June 16, 2023, at 3:00 pm at Forest cemetery in Oskaloosa.
Those planning on attending the graveside service should plan to meet at the Bates Funeral Chapel at 2:45 to leave in procession to the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family.
