Altieri, Wise Named All-Conference

Oskaloosa–John Altieri (So., Warwick, R.I., Sociology) and Nick Wise (Sr., Phoenix, Ariz., Exercise Science) were strong in league battles this year and they were rewarded for their efforts by being named to the 2016-2017 all-Heart of America Athletic Conference teams Friday.

Altieri earned first-team honors at 125 pounds, while Wise was a third-team award recipient at 184 pounds.

The honor is the second for Altieri, who was a second-teamer last year. The sophomore ran the table (5-0) against Heart competition, including winning twice by fall and once by decision (also had two forfeits).

Wise posted a 2-2 record versus fellow league grapplers, highlighted by one pin.

A total of 30 individuals were honored with Jacob Colon of Grand View and Victor Hughes of Baker sharing the Wrestler of the Year laurel. Newcomer of the Year accolades went to GVU’s Josh Wenger, while Nick Mitchell of Grand View took home Heart Coach of the Year laurels.

Awards are based on results of the conference’s round robin dual matches.
