ALMEIDA, KOUAME SWEEP ICCAC HONORS

Ottumwa, IA – The No. 2 nationally ranked Indian Hills Men’s Soccer squad swept the weekly Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week awards after an undefeated weekend on the pitch.
Freshmen Enzo de Almeida (Foz do Iguacu, Brazil/Colegio Silva Batista) and Bennett Kouame (St. Louis Park, MN/St. Louis Park) racked up the weekly accolades from the conference office after leading the Warriors to a 2-0-0 record to open the new year. The Warriors knocked off a pair of nationally ranked squads in (RV) Otero Junior College and No. 8 ranked Miami Dade College in Ottumwa.
Almeida was tapped as the league’s top offensive performer in the opening weekend of action after tallying a goal in both sides of the Warriors’ IHCC Classic series. The freshman provided a well-placed strike to the upper corner to extend the Warriors’ lead against Otero in the opening match of the weekend before providing an insurance goal in the 66th minute against Miami Dade to help push the Warriors to the two wins.
On the backline, Kouame was tapped as the ICCAC’s Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Warriors to a pair of clean sheets to open the new year. The freshman was stellar for the Indian Hills defense, limiting the opposition to just nine total shots, including zero on net.
The Warriors return to action this weekend to take on Barton Community College (KS) at 7:00 PM Friday night in Council Bluffs, IA on the Iowa Western Community College campus.
