Aleksander Kostric Qualifies for Nationals

Addison, Ill.–One day after being named an All-American, Aleksander Kostric (Sr., Koper, Slovenia, Sports Management) proved he more than deserved the honor by qualifying for nationals with a strong showing at the USBC Singles Sectionals Friday.

Kostric became the third individual in program history to qualify for the USBC Intercollegiate Singles Championships and the first since James Miller in 2010-2011.

The senior placed fourth out of 158 competitors with a six-game tally of 1,277 pins. A total of six rollers advanced out of the Addison Sectional with Pete Vergos of Calumet-St. Joseph (Ind.) taking the top spot with 1,305 pins.

Kostric’s 212.8 average came via four rounds over 200. He started with a 189 and then moved way up the charts with his best game of 256. He followed with games of 181 and 213 before posting another strong score of 237. His final game of 201 locked him in as he finished 21 pins ahead of the cut line.

Kostric will now advance to nationals on May 5-8 at Wyoming, Mich. A total of 24 individuals (six each from the four sectionals) will compete for the crown.

William Penn placed five other individuals in the top 50 at the sectional event, led by Jayson Miner (Jr., Silvis, Ill., Business Management) who placed 23rd with his 1,188 pin total. Dawson Greene (Fr., Ottumwa, Digital Communication) was right behind him at 1,182, while Ryan Dudley (Jr., Anchorage, Alaska, Business Management) (1,137), Albert Liggins (Jr., Ravanel, S.C., Exercise Science) (1,127), and Brandon Freese (Sr., Marshalltown, Iowa, Software Engineering) (1,126) were also near the top of the standings.
