OSKALOOSA, IA — Prepare yourself for a Summer of Wonder with the George Daily Youth Theatre Summer Camp where you can become a hero, a villain, a wizard, or anything you can imagine. You can create, discover, explore, wonder, play games, sing, dance, and most of all, act!

“I hear from kids that the opportunities they have here are different from anywhere else. It’s different games, different activities, different skills, and it challenges them in ways they don’t expect. We have a really unique atmosphere that you don’t find in other summer programs or even other theatre camps,” says Andy McGuire, Education Director at the George Daily Auditorium.

The summer kicks off the week of June 6th with a Harry Potter-inspired camp “Wizards, Wands, and Wonders!” for grades K-12. In this camp, the mysterious Mercy McKinley has set out to tear down the wall between Wizards and Muggles. The camp is a building camp, so students will write their own script as well as perform it.

“We like to make sure we offer well-rounded types of camps,” says McGuire. “In addition to building, we also have performing and filming camps, as well as a brand-new type this summer, gaming camps.”

This summer will have a few surprises, according to McGuire, with several additions to the staff: a teacher who specializes in technical theatre, as well as several guest teachers.

“We want our campers to have as much interaction with different professionals as possible, which is why we have two guest teachers this year. The first, Katherine Norman, who was here a few years ago for Missoula Children’s Theatre, will teach Wizards, Wands, and Wonders,” says McGuire.

Camp usually runs from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. unless otherwise noted, with programming available for kindergarten through high school. At the end of each session, campers will showcase what they learned and created throughout the week for family and friends. Free, healthy lunches will be provided for all campers through the Oskaloosa Summer Lunch Program.

The summer is packed with themed camps so kids can go as many weeks as they like and have a different experience each time. Registrations are accepted up to, and on, the first day of camp.
