Kaune Tops Individual Play as Statesmen Place High in Opener

Indianapolis, Ind.–With senior Jacques Kaune (Anchorage, Alaska, Business Management) leading the way, the William Penn men’s bowling team started 2015-2016 with an excellent finish at the Storm Western Shootout Saturday and Sunday.

The Statesmen placed fourth out of 40 teams with a final tally of 9,010 pins in six regular games and four Baker sets. Notre Dame (Ohio) won the title with 9,361 pins.

Kaune topped a field of over 250 competitors in regular play with a 221.7 average (1,330 pins). All six of his games were over 200; his efforts were highlighted by a 247 in his last round.

Nick Walker (Fr., Zeeland, Mich., Business Management) had a tremendous collegiate debut, placing 17th with a 205.3 average in six games. Travis Scott (Sr., West Saint Paul, Minn., Physical Education), with a 191.5 clip, also started all six games.

Michael Applegate (Sr., Council Bluffs, Iowa, Secondary Education), at 195.3, and Quincy Bruce (So., Cedar Rapids, Iowa), at 181.3, each played in four games, while Lucas Perdieu (Jr., DeWitt, Iowa, Public Accounting) (169.0) and Stian Hoff (Jr., Orkanger, Norway, General Accounting) (168.0) started two rounds each.

Connor Frederick (Sr., Ottumwa, Iowa, History/Government) guided WPU’s second team which finished 26th with 7,809 pins. The senior had a 179.2 average in five games. Cody Adair (Jr., Kearns, Utah, Undecided) matched his teammate with five games, owning a 174.2 average at the Shootout.

Curtis Majka (So., Elgin, Ill.) (182.3) and Cory Rissman (Sr., Yorkville, Ill., Industrial Technology) (158.8) started four games apiece, while the quartet of Ryan Racimo (Jr. Olympia, Wash.) (179.0),
Rylie Reidel (So., Knoxville, Iowa, Business Management) (175.3), Kevin Wesely (Sr., Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Industrial Technology) (170.0), and Jason Forsyth (Fr., Weatherford, Texas) (156.3) all posted scores in three games.

Next Up: William Penn travels to Lincoln, Neb. Saturday and Sunday to compete in the Sandhills Collegiate Classic.
