WPU Sixth at Grand View Meet
Polk City–The Statesmen men’s golf team faded a bit in the second round to finish smack-dab in the middle of the standings at the Grand View Classic Monday and Tuesday.
William Penn was sixth out of 11 teams with a two-day tally of 616 (305-311) at the par-72 Tournament Club of Iowa Golf Course. Host and #9 Grand View held off #6 Texas Wesleyan for the title by five strokes, 574-579.
Leo Mathard of Texas Wesleyan was the top linkster in the 59-player event, posting a four-under 140 (67-73).
The Statesmen were fourth after the opening 18 holes, but dropped two spots on Tuesday.
Spencer Skipper (Sr., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Business Management) headlined the navy and gold efforts by tying for 12th at 149 (74-75), while Frederik Lundsgaard (So., Jebjerg, Denmark, History/Government) was just one stroke behind him at 150 (75-75) to tie for 15th.
Unfortunately, there was a bit of a drop-off from there as John Baumunk (Jr., Sherrard, Ill., Business Management) was next in a tie for 36th at 160 (77-83). Justin Bothma (Sr., Boksburg, South Africa, Business Management), in a tie for 40th at 165 (79-86), and Joshua Snyman (Fr., Johannesburg, South Africa, Business Management), in 43rd at 166 (88-78), swung the sticks this week as well.
Ethan Powers (Sr., Tipton, Iowa, Physical Education) only competed on the first day, tallying a 95 on Monday.
Next Up: William Penn returns to Oskaloosa Sunday and Monday to host the William Penn Classic. Play will be contested at Edmundson Golf Course.
