Statesmen Scoreless Against MNU
Oskaloosa–The William Penn women’s soccer team came up short against another tough Heart of America Athletic Conference opponent, falling 2-0 to MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) Saturday.
The Statesmen (5-7, 2-4 Heart) were even with the Pioneers (8-4-1, 4-1 Heart) in a scoreless first half as both teams had four shots.
Unfortunately, MNU controlled action in the second period, posting a 12-1 edge in shots. The visitors broke the scoreless tie in the 55th minute and then doubled the margin in the 78th minute.
Alyce Correia (Jr., Perth, Australia, Elementary Education) managed two of WPU’s five shots, while Adriana Borjon (Jr., Willits, Calif., Exercise Science) stopped five MidAmerica Nazarene attempts.
“We had a little more intensity today and we gave MNU a pretty decent test throughout the game,” Head Coach Willie McGowan said. “Unfortunately, we allowed two poor goals and took the game out of our own hands.”
“We made a few errors today, and in this league it is all about the small margins and being punished for a lack of focus in small increments,” McGowan added. “We were punished today and as we look forward, the hope is we can firm up those little lapses and punish some other teams for theirs along the way.”
