Cross Country Teams Take Seventh at St. Ambrose Invite

Bettendorf–The Statesmen harrier squads each produced a competitor in the top 20 as they battled at the St. Ambrose Invitational Saturday.

The men were seven out of 10 teams with 158 points, while Davenport (Mich.) took the title with 45 points. The women were also seventh (out of 11 teams) with 218 points with Mount Mercy topping the standings with 35 points.

Dustin Brummel of Davenport was the individual winner in the men’s 8K race in a time of 25:53, while Mount Mercy’s Liz Mosbach had the best women’s time (19:24) on the 5K course.

Ochaung Akway (Sr., St. Paul, Minn., Physical Education) was seventh in the 92-man field at 26:46. The next three Statesmen were just seconds apart with Payton Busch (Jr., Centerville, Iowa, Secondary Education) leading the trio in 31st at 28:17. Garrett Heckman (So., New Virginia, Iowa, Mechanical Engineering) (35th, 28:40) and Zach Johnson (So., Decatur, Ill., Mechanical Engineering) (36th, 28:43) were next to each other at the finish line.

Amani Richardson (So., Carrollton, Va., Exercise Science) was the final navy and gold scorer, taking 62nd in a time of 30:29. Tian Siggins (Jr., Atlantic, Iowa, Physical Education) (83rd, 33:17) also ran Saturday.

Addison Kepner (Sr., Cincinnati, Iowa, Biology) paced the female group, taking 20th out of 108 individuals at 20:39. Guadalupe Gonzalez (So., Houston, Texas, Exercise Science) (30th, 21:09) and Deja Lewis (Jr., Spring, Texas, Psychology) (46th, 21:43) also went under 22 minutes for WPU.

Destiny Galvin (Fr., Galesburg, Ill., Undecided) finished in 87th place (24:17) and Arianna Davis (So., New Sharon, Iowa, Biology) rounded out the efforts in 100th at 25:43.

Next Up: William Penn takes a week off before traveling to Cedar Rapids on Saturday, October 24 to compete in the NAIA Seminole Valley Stampede hosted by Mount Mercy.
