Iowa State University Extension

Iowa State University Extension

Hannah Howard with Trees Forever (TF) will present how native plants provide so many benefits, not only to us but also our wildlife and pollinators! Come find out how you can use more native plants in your landscaping and how it will benefit pollinators. Her presentation will be Monday, October 12 at 6:30 pm at the Mahaska County Extension office, 212 North I Street Oskaloosa.

Trees Forever does more than just plant trees! TF cares about the environment; about our urban forests, our rural lands, the communities we live in and our fellow citizens. The nonprofit charitable organization, headquartered in Marion, Iowa, was founded in 1989, and continues today with our commitment to connect people to the environment through the planting and care of trees, prairie, and other natural areas.

The Trees forever mission is to plant and care for trees and the environment by empowering people, building community, and promoting stewardship – is fulfilled through cutting-edge programs and innovative practices. Through these, the trained and experienced staff has assisted community leaders and landowners across Iowa and Illinois with thousands of planting projects. Each year, on average, TF work with and engage more than 7000 volunteers who give generously of their time and talents. To date, TF has helped planted more than 3 million trees and shrubs throughout Iowa and Illinois.

Hannah graduated from Iowa State University with degrees in Forestry and Animal Ecology with an emphasis in forest ecosystem management and interpretation of natural resources. She is passionate about trees (of course) and helping connect people to the natural world. Her favorite part of working for Trees Forever is educating Iowans about native plants and trees. She loves traveling and doing anything outdoors, from camping to hiking and biking. Hannah lives in rural Louisa County with her brother and sister fixing up an old farm house, where they’ve been busy planting trees, restoring prairie, raising chickens and gardening.
